The NHL is set to unveil its 2017-18 Stanley Cup Champion Team of the Year Tuesday, which will be announced as part of the NHL’s 20th Anniversary Celebration.
The team will consist of the top teams in the League’s four divisions, along with the 20 best-of-seven series that culminates in the Stanley Tournament Championship.
The Stanley Cup is awarded to the champion of each of the four divisions.
The list of nominees for the 2017 Stanley Cup champion is set for release at a press conference in New York City on Monday.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of our first championship series, the Stanley Trophy, and this is a team that we have been looking forward to for quite some time,” said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.
“It will be an exciting day to witness the incredible accomplishments of some of our greatest players and coaches.
We will be proud to announce our 2017 Stanley Trophy winners.”
The finalists for the Stanley trophy are: Team USA: Team Captain Sidney Crosby, the Penguins’ franchise player; Team Canada: Team Goalie Carey Price, the Ottawa Senators’ franchise goalie; Team USA’s No. 1 seed: Team captain Sidney Crosby and Team Canada’s No 4 seed: Sidney Crosby; Team North America’s No 1 seed and Team Russia’s No 2 seed: Russia’s captain Alex Ovechkin and Team USA Team Captain Nicklas Backstrom; Team Europe’s No 3 seed: Denmark’s captain Henrik Sedin and Team Sweden’s No 5 seed: Sweden’s captain Jonathan Toews; Team Asia’s No 6 seed: Japan’s captain Seppo Numarka and Team Finland’s No 7 seed: Finland’s captain Juuse Saros; Team Latin America’s Team MVP Max Pacioretty and Team North Korea’s Team Captain Kim Jong-un.
The finalist for the Hart Trophy, the NHL Player of the Decade award, is: Team Canada and Team Team USA captain Sidney Monahan and Team Mexico’s and Team Slovakia’s captain Michal Rozsival and Team the U.S.A. captain Ryan Getzlaf.
The league will also unveil the winner of the Vezina Trophy, given to the League MVP.
The Vezine Trophy is awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies the NHL culture and character.
The league will reveal the award winner at a news conference in Toronto on Tuesday.
“The 2017-2018 NHL Stanley Cup Champions have been hard at work in preparation for the announcement,” said Bettman, who also announced that the league will open a digital television station for its broadcast of the 2018-2019 season.
“We are proud to introduce our 2018 Stanley Cup contenders to our fans, and I can’t wait to see how they will perform in the next round.”
The full list of the finalists for each of their respective Division 1, 2, 3 and 4 playoff spots is expected to be announced later this week.
For the first time in league history, the league also will unveil the final standings of the regular season, including a full playoff ranking for each division, and a list of all 20 best teams.
The playoff rankings will be released on the NHL.com website on Monday at 5 p.m. ET.
