Pilot jet landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport Tuesday after being grounded due to engine issues, officials said.
The plane had to be diverted to a different airport after a fire broke out at the plane.
Los Angeles Fire Department said it was investigating.
It was not immediately clear how the engine had failed.
The aircraft landed in a residential area near the airport and the fire was contained to the left engine, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Federal Aviation Administration said in a joint statement.
